Before buying a bespoke or made-to-measure suit, it’s important to find the right tailor who’s going to be making it for you. This may be a new experience for many men, so we’ve come up with a list of attributes that you should be aware of when selecting the perfect tailor to make you the perfect suit.
Communication
It is imperative that your tailor communicates effectively. No one knows your body better than you do, so your tailor should be implementing your personal preferences while creating your bespoke suit.
It may be a new experience, but it shouldn’t be an uncomfortable one. A good tailor will put you at ease and ask you the right questions to produce the perfect fitting suit. Throughout the process, you should be having a great time.
Good tailors should know more about styles and fits than you ever will, but at the end of the day, you’re the one who will be wearing the suit. Ensure that your voice is heard, that the tailor is there as an expert opinion guiding you through your decisions – not making them for you.

Ask yourself these questions when visiting your tailor:
1) Is my tailor readily available for consultation?
2) Does my tailor listen to my preferences?
3) Is my tailor engaging with me through the bespoke process?
4) Am I having fun?
Perfectionist
A tailor’s sense of satisfaction is a very good indicator of the quality of your suit. Tailors that nitpick over minute details are definite keepers. On the other hand, they should also understand what your sense of perfection is and strive to achieve that. Tailors that embody this perfectionist ideal may not come cheap, but are worth your time and money in the long run.
Style
A tailor’s personal sense of style is not totally irrelevant, but not always indicative of their work. There will usually be sample pieces of work at the shop or clients’ garments waiting to be picked up. This will give you a good idea of their work. If their style doesn’t align with yours, you need to be sure they have the skills to create your vision – if not, then it may be time to pick a new tailor.
Attentive
Does the tailor take care in making their measurements? Or are they looking hastily towards the next customer? A good tailor is busy and may not be able to handle multiple walk-in consultations. How they treat you in these situations is a good indicator of their craft and professionalism.
Remember, a tailor’s job is to make the best possible suit for you. Your tailor should be asking what your requirements are and taking notice of the peculiarities in the shape of your body to produce a suit that looks and feels like it was made specifically for you.
We leave no detail unnoticed. We help you choose the style, pattern and colour that best complements your features, occasion or wedding theme. Most importantly, we make sure that the suit you create is something completely wearable, so that you can make the most of your investment for years to come.
